During this last trip in the Dông Tháp province, we focused on our house construction project.
We started by visiting the local team of volunteers which is so critical to this project. Thanks to their help, the cost of building one of those basic homes is around $500. Considering the urgent need for so many families who are currently living in very unsanitary and unsafe houses, new ones are built as rapidly as possible, using mainly wood and sheet metal. These volunteers operate their own sawmill to maintain the cost of wood as low as possible.More than 30 families have been identified for this project. Several criteria were used to prioritize those requests such as the age and health of the family members, the state of their current house, etc. So far, ten houses have been paid for by you; some are already built, others are still under construction.
Over two days, we visited each of those ten families and they all wanted to heartily thank their new friends from abroad who made this huge change in their daily life a reality. We also want to stress the fantastic work done by the local volunteers. Nothing would have been possible without their dedication and hard work!
Today, we went to a school in a remote village in the Thanh Binh District. We brought school supplies, scholarship to help families in hardship and 10 new bikes for the children living far from the school.
It's so beautiful to see all the happy faces and big smiles
